Local Motion - July 7-20, 2010
*Visitors to Downtown have a snazzy new way to get around. On July 1, Metro, the Downtown St. Louis Community Improvement District and the Convention and Visitors Commission introduced new “trolleys” — MetroBuses wrapped to look like the vintage vehicles — that run on routes hitting the district’s hot spots. The trolley service operates from 5:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays.
*Here’s another way to help cure workaday blues: the Central West End Association is sponsoring a “Mirthday” at Bissinger’s Chocolate in Maryland Plaza from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 22. The happy hour is a way to get to know neighbors and more about the association. CWE resident Nicki Dwyer is the fun-raiser. Stop by!
*Congratulations to Clayton High School seniors Richard Millett and Rebecca Steinberg, who recently received perfect scores on their ACTs. Nationally, less than one-tenth of one percent of all test takers earns the top score of 36.
*Finally a chance to find out the story behind those flamingos! Downtown’s Citygarden will celebrate its first birthday with an event from 2 to 4 p.m. July 10. The party will celebrate everything pink and will include a flamingo parade and costume contest, as well as the telling of the flamingos’ mysterious tale.
*St. Louis Effort for Aids will host a picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11 at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park. The event marks the organization’s 25th anniversary.
