Go Fish! program teaches cruelty to animals

To the editor:

Regarding the article “Go Fish!” [in the June 23 issue], I grew up fishing and hunting because adults thought it would be good for me, so I know exactly what kids learn from it.

Fishing teaches kids to ignore an animal’s pain for their own pleasure.  It teaches how to yank animals from their natural aquatic habitat with sharp metal through their face and bring them into an environment where they suffocate until they die, unless they get their heads cut off first.  Worst of all, it tells the lie that to love the environment, you should kill its residents.

The one thing that the “teachers” don’t teach you is that fish feel pain.  Real pain.  Oh, and they don’t teach you that the more people fish, the more money the MDC brings in.

Is violence something we need more of in our society?  Is there not enough death and murder around us that we need to teach our children how to kill?  As someone who’s done these horrible things to innocent animals, I say that we should teach our children how to love nature without drawing blood.
