*Need medical advice fast? St. Louis Children’s Hospital has launched an iPhone app for pediatric symptoms, called Kid Care. Kid Care features 88 pediatric topics that can be searched alphabetically or by body type for parents to gauge the level of medical care needed for their children. The app can be downloaded from Apple iTunes or from the hospital’s website, StLouisChildrens.org.
*The website for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, www.archstl.org, is now new and improved. The updated site has a new look, is better organized and is more accessible to users with disabilities. It has also revamped some of its most popular features to make them easier to use and has created new ways for users to keep up with events and organizations throughout the archdiocese.
*Gov. Jay Nixon recently announced that the soon-to-be renovated location of Sweetie Pie’s Upper Crust, 3643 Delmar Blvd., will be receiving $425,227 in Brownfield Redevelopment Incentives. The new site will host a new restaurant that will offer breakfast, banquet and meeting space, as well as a bakery with separate sales.
*Central West End resident Lisa Grove has earned a 2010 “40 Under 40” Award from the St. Louis Business Journal. Grove serves as the deputy director of the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis and is noted for balancing an artsy edge with business savvy that has helped the museum grow financially.
*The Missouri Botanical Garden celebrates Horticulture Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 20. Horticultural therapy is the use of gardening activities, guided by a trained therapist, to help achieve a number of physical and mental benefits. For the price of admission you can view a sample garden, learn about the uses of sensory plants, and create your own arrangements on this day.
*This month the St. Louis Office for Developmental Resources is participating in Developmental Disability Awareness Month. On March 8 they hosted their 10th annual art fair featuring artwork from St. Louis Public Schools students that reflects their impressions of developmental disabilities. Their work will be on display at the Rotunda at City Hall throughout March.
*The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is offering its spring rain barrel sale until March 31. MSD customers who are current on their bill can purchase the barrels and must pickup and install them. With many environmental benefits, the rain barrels are a part of MSD’s efforts to promote green activities that help better water quality in the St. Louis community.
