Local Motion - March 3-16, 2010

*On March 5 and 6, Downtown St. Louis will be offering a twist on winter sports. At 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, the district will host its spin on the Iditarod, the time-honored Alaskan dog sled race. The downtown version will replace dogs with people and sleds with shopping carts, and will throw in checkpoints to boot. For more info call 436-6500, ext. 241.

*St. Patrick’s Day is on the way, and the Cathedral Basilica, 4430 Maryland Ave., is ready to get in the Irish spirit. The Cathedral will host a traditional Irish dinner with corned beef and cabbage from 5 to 7 p.m. March 13. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children. The event will also feature Irish dancing and an Irish-themed boutique and quilt raffle.

*In honor of Women’s History Month, Maplewood will honor its 175 woman-owned businesses by hosting the fourth annual Women Making History networking event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 4. The free event will take place at the St. Louis Closet Co., 2626 S. Big Bend Blvd.

*It’s well known that people love their dogs, and the CWE is no exception. During operating hours, the dog park at 4597 Olive St. is the place to be, and now it has a comprehensive website — complete with news, tips and a dog of the month feature — to keep canines and their families happy during off hours. Check it out at www.cwedogparks.com.

He was most recently vice president of marketing and sales for Cornerstone Realty and before that was vice president of sales and marketing for The Plaza in Clayton.

*While he was in town for the St. Louis French Festival, Ambassador of France Pierre Vimont stopped by Soldan International Studies High School  to speak with students and shake hands with Wilfried Segue, a French foreign exchange teacher at Soldan. Vimont also endorsed a partnership between St. Louis Public Schools and the Academie de Lyon to further develop cultural exchanges, including electronic correspondence between the schools and joint teaching projects.
