Why didn’t the CWE have Christmas lights?

To the editor:

Is there any reason there were no Christmas decorations throughout the CWE this past holiday season? Are those in charge too cheap or lazy to have classic white lights installed on trees and wreaths on the beautiful light fixtures on Euclid, at the very least? Or are they just atheists? Seems like every other neighborhood was dressed in their holiday finest — Kirkwood, even a portion of Delmar — although the CWE is arguably the prettiest. With the exception of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree on Maryland — which had all the earmarks of private self-help — we remained cold, frigid, dark and just plain Jane. What a pity. How much could it cost, for God’s sake? $15,000? That shouldn’t be hard to raise. I’ll put up $1,000 to kick off the fundraiser.
